I love Nashville’s great food culture; and I love checking out new restaurants as they open up! I’ve told you before about some new spots sure to become Nashville greats, but a few more are opening up this summer!

Ru San’s in Hillsboro Village

Ru San’s opened quietly in the former spot for Lucky Belly, which had been a great Asian fusion spot with sushi, burgers, and a great daily happy hour before 6. Not too many people are happy to see Ru San’s take its place, with the single exception of its lunch-hour sushi buffet and sometimes-decent happy hour. We’ll miss you, Lucky Belly! Since every other sushi restaurant which opened in this exact location has closed, it’s uncertain what this means for Ru San’s, which left its downtown location to transfer here.

nashville old gas stationThe Old Gas Station in the Nations

The Nations is just west of Charlotte Pike, and has been a hot area lately (echoing the transition of Sylvan Park) for housing and restaurants. And the next big thing in the Nations is a cute, funky little craft beer bar called the Old Gas Station. Because… it’s a converted gas station! But the owners have made the location go full-hipster, and for a converted gas station, it looks shockingly fun! Set up by the co-founder of McDougal’s, it’s sure to do well. Initially it will open with 12 beer taps, with the ability to scale up to 60, and will serve 30 beers in bottles or cans, along with growlers. Planned hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Proper Bagel in Belmont

Proper Bagel is a new eatery opened up in Belmont which has regrettably short morning-and-afternoon hours, but serves handcrafted, gourmet bagels and bagel sandwiches. Proper Bagel is modern, conceptual eatery & market with a laid-back, chic vibe. hailing from New York, their family brings with it over 35 years of experience in the art of traditional baking to the heart of Nashville. using only the finest ingredients and inspired by the culinary creativity of the new community, they’re committed to delivering old school flavors with a new school edge.
