Hattie-B-Hot-Chicken_nashvilleToday, March 16, marks the first day that Nashville Hot Chicken icon, Hattie B’s, begins serving their long-awaited Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich.

This sure-to-be-legendary delight will be available at both the Midtown and Charlotte locations today, and will combine all the best elements of their amazing hot chicken, delicious slaw, and soft rolls. Those of you who don’t want to brave the Midtown location crowds (where the line is often 30 minutes to 1 hour long), head to the Charlotte location, which is larger and has a consistently reasonable wait time.

If you’re wondering why Hattie B’s sandwich is such a big deal, then you clearly haven’t been there, or were one of the unlucky few who had to spend an hour waiting in line. Their ‘Nashville Comeback Sauce’ is a divine creation of signature spices, honey, and mayo, and they make their coleslaw all in-house with actual magic.

And the buns? Those will be courtesy of Charpiers Bakery, a local institution which deserves a stiff salute for its excellence. This sandwich, like all the rest of the venue’s chicken, can be had Southern-style (no heat), mild, medium, hot, or ‘Shut the Cluck Up’.

If you have trouble with lines, there’s a clever workaround: buy it to go, and eat at the nearby Centennial Park instead, or on the tree-lined Vandy campus just 2 blocks away. If you live in the area, just take it back to your porch, crack open a few beers, and have one of the best Nashville-themed meals of your life.

But Hattie B’s isn’t the only amazing restaurant in the Midtown area. There’s also the Row, Two Boots, Tavern, Soulshine, Blackstone, Cookout, Chuy’s, Union Common, J&J’s… and with all the great bars and nightlife, for the younger or urban set it’s a to-die for neighborhood.
